SuperShot Challenge was started in 1990, to celebrate the Gold Medals won by Jersey and Guernsey in the Auckland Commonwealth Games, held earlier that year. They remain the only Commonwealth Games Gold Medals ever won by either island. The late Adrian Breton of Guernsey won Rapid Fire Pistol and Colin Mallett of Jersey won Fullbore Rifle (and Bronze in the Pairs Match with his father, Cliff Mallett).
Please note that, 29 years later, Colin and Cliff will be shooting in New Zealand again later this month in the World Long Range Rifle Championships. We wish them well!
The 1990 SuperShot was so successful that it has been held ever since.
Target shooting is just about the safest activity sport there is. It can be pursued enjoyably and safely by men and women; and by the young and the old. Of course winning big competitions takes a great deal of skill; but total beginners are welcome in SuperShot Challenge and will enjoy a fascinating day.
Location
SuperShot Challenge is held at the Crabbé Ranges in St. Mary, in the North-West corner of Jersey. All the ranges are within a maximum of a few hundred yards of each other. Everyone has time to stop for a coffee, a bacon roll or a buffet lunch and see how everyone else is progressing.
Events
The events include: Fullbore Rifle at 300 yards; Smallbore Rifle at 50 yards; Clay Target; Archery at 15 metres; Air Pistol at 10 metres; Air Rifle at 8 metres; and .22 Pistol at 13 metres. Every Competitor shoots in every event. All equipment is provided.
Teams & Classes
Each Team consists of 4 Competitors, with an experienced Mentor to look after them, who may also compete in the Mentor Class.
Good Causes
Funds are raised through both Team Entry Fees (£300 normally but only £100 for Junior U18) and sponsorship. Half the 2019 surplus will be shared equally between CLIC Sargent Jersey (www.clicsargentjersey.org.je) and the Jersey Heart Support Group (www.jerseyheartsupportgroup.org) ; while the balance will be used to help Jersey Teams compete in Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships.
Over £110,000 has been raised to date for terrific CI charities through SuperShot.
